La pertinence des conseils peut parfois nous étonner tant ces derniers s’avèrent justes et bénéfiques.Abondant en enseignements très divers, cet ouvrage est enrichi de remèdes spirituels concrets (ruqya – dou‘as) ainsi que de remèdes naturels tout aussi concrets, avec un lexique concis des plantes et de leurs bienfaits. Né en 1292 (691 de l’Hégire) à Damas, Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyya étudia chez les plus grands maîtres de son temps dont l’illustre Ibn Taymiyya (1263-1328). Il fut un disciple très fidèle et l’un des plus célèbres savants de son époque. Amoureux des livres et très prolixe, c’est en grande partie grâce à lui que l’œuvre du savant Ibn Taymiyya ainsi qu’une somme considérable de Hadiths touchant à tous les domaines, y compris la médecine, nous furent transmises et explicitées. Renommé pour sa piété et son sérieux, Ibn Qayyim combattait avec ardeur les hérésies et les déviations. Il fut emprisonné et torturé à cause de ses prises de position aux côtés de son maître et ne fut relâché qu’après le décès d’Ibn Taymiyya. Il décéda en 1350 (751 de l’Hégire à Damas.
