Outre la dimension raciale de la sécularisation, ce livre en met au jour une seconde, écologique celle-là. En l'absence d'un Royaume de l'au-delà, la Terre devient le seul monde " sacré ", et l'exploitation de ses sols et sous-sols la source unique de la légitimité de l'Empire.
Aiguisée par les rivalités interimpériales (entre la Grande-Bretagne, la France et l'Allemagne), la ruée sur les biens terrestres s'est peu à peu muée en destruction de l'écosystème global. Ainsi pouvons-nous faire remonter la crise climatique à ce surgissement impérial-séculier et qualifier l'ère qu'il a ouverte de " Sécularocène ". C'est la critique du Ciel qui a bouleversé la Terre.
